So, This AI Thing. Giving Up Already? Is AI The End Of Developer Careers
Last Updated: June 5th 2024
Reports Of The End Of Developer Careers Are Somewhat Exaggerated
What we get up every day and try to do at Nucamp: help people who are thinking about getting an education in tech, and so totally changing up their lives and career paths.
But with all the noise about AI 'replacing' programmers, we also know there are some people out there rethinking that decision.
That's partly because of everything they hear about AI and developers, which has come right after all the Big Tech layoff thing.
Six months ago, these people would not have hesitated to try and retrain; now, at least some of them think this is less of a dependable career choice than it once so recently seemed.
As our core proposition is giving everyone access to quality coding education without them taking on huge debt and making the transition into a great career as easy as possible, perhaps our ride is done—the world maybe has enough developers already, and the ones that do have jobs are about to be replaced by ChatGPT anyway, right?
A ton of opportunities are going to be available to you.
I'm going to have to stick my neck out and say, Twain-like, that the rumors of the death of coding as a career are a little premature.
Indeed, I see a ton of opportunities that are actually emerging from this first wave of generative AI approaches to building 'content'.
Which of course, does include computer code at some level—but that does not mean all computer code.
If you've been thinking about learning to code and hesitating because you think there's no place for them, you're so, so wrong: there's not only definitely a place for you, there's actually a ton of opportunities that are going to be available to you as soon as you acquire even pretty basic computing skills.
And let's get real for a sec.
If it's true that every white collar job is going to be impacted by AI and automation, you can either be a victim of that change... or actually own this AI revolution for you and your family's benefit.
