Coding Bootcamp Scholarship Winners Look to Start Their Careers in Tech
Last Updated: January 22nd 2023
A huge barrier to learning a new skill is the cost of education.
On top of Nucamp’s commitment to keep our education costs low for students, this spring we partnered with Climb Credit to award five $500 scholarships to perspective students looking to kickstart their career in the growing field of technology.
Here are a few of their stories:
Jade De-Terville Martin loves working with technology and in her spare time makes YouTube videos.
For her, creating something from nothing and helping someone get the information they need is what she thrives on.
Seeing an idea for a website come to life from code she wrote brings her that same excitement.
As one of the $500 scholarship winners, Jade plans to enroll in the full stack bootcamp to understand the web development process from beginning to end and to enhance her technical skills.
She is eager to use her creativity and new coding skills to create user interfaces that have real-world benefits.
Ready to level up the skills she had already taught herself in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, she is also excited to learn with like-minded individuals.
"“Learning to code is like peeking behind the curtain of a magic show. The more I learn, the more I want to understand and make.” -Jade De-Terville Martin
Brian Elwick’s goal is to someday own his own business.
He not only enjoys tech but wants to have a hand in developing it himself.
As a single father Brian wants to be an even more inspiring role model for his son.
He would like to give him a personal example of someone pursing their dream.
He also hopes to show his son that drive doesn’t diminish with age.
“[Attending a Nucamp bootcamp] would be the springboard I need to finally take control of my future.” -Brian Elwick
Donovan Genas is a truck driver who previously taught middle school mathematics for 13 years.
At 48 he says he is ready to pursue a career that will allow him to get off the road and have more time at home with his family.
His two kids, Nedu and Naji, are currently learning coding and he found it is an excellent field to go into, so he thought “why not me?”.
It will be a great way to learn along with his children and maybe even work together in their own business someday.
“This will catapult me into a career that scares me, but one that I believe that I will excel at. Nucamp is the vehicle that I am using to change my life!” -Donovan Genas
Nucamp is honored to be a part of each one of these scholarship winner’s journey as they make their goals realities!
Thanks to all who applied and keep a look out for more Nucamp scholarship opportunities in the future.
